Kenton of the Star Patrol -- early Kubert

Joe Kubert started in comics around 1938 (which is pretty impressive for someone born in 1926) and he's still at it. Here's a sample from Strange Worlds (circa 1950).

Another case from the files of Dr. Drew

Frankie as Hamlet

In his first incarnation, Briefer's Frankenstein was almost completely evil with only the suggestion of pathos. In his last incarnation the balance was reversed. Here the evil was almost always human.

(and yes, I'm sure the allusion in the final image was deliberate)

Stop wasting all of your time with obscure, old comic books!

And start wasting more with obscure, old TV shows like Chuck Jones' Curiosity Shop!

Cool Stuff.

The Secret Files of Dr. Drew -- Elusa

Though Will Eisner was always the guiding force behind the Spirit (except for his stint in the army), many other artists and writers worked on the series. The best of those teams was probably Jerry Grandenetti (artist) and Jules Feiffer (writer).

Here's a sample from Grandenetti's Fiction House's Rangers Comics. The story doesn't make a great deal of sense but the art is extraordinary.

THE good girl cover

Matt Baker's cover for Phantom Lady 17 set the standard for more than a half century of comic book breasts.

The really shocking news is that they still publish Archie Comics

From the AP:
In this image released by Archie Comics, the comic book cover for issue 'Veronica 202,' is shown. The issue will introduce a new classmate named Kevin Keller, the first gay character in the Archie Comics series.
